On religion and glue

March 1st, 2010 by gddik

Why is it that the only thing that superglue will stick together effectively is your fingers?

And while we’re on the subject of religion…

I have the potential to be very devout. In fact, I have professed to be a devout atheist, which is true, but which also leaves a kind of void, a feeling of being left out. I envy people who have something that provides them with some kind of crutch in times of difficulty, but I just can’t bring myself to believe the fairy stories that go with them. I need something more tangible - something I can hang my metaphorical hat on. I’ve considered Buddhism, and it is indeed quite attractive, given that it doesn’t actually have a god as such, but it does seem like quite hard work. Anyone who knows me will realise in an instant that this is not my thing.

But there is hope.

I have happened upon (thanks to Volkswagen ads in the cinema) the religion of Dudeism - The Church Of The Latter Day Dude. It pushes all the right buttons, and I could literally hang my hat - metaphorical or otherwise - on it.

I’m not sure that I want to become fully ordained - I’d be quite happy to remain a layman.

Now, let us pray.
