And while I’m on the subject…

… of birds, that is, it came to my attention while in Malta that there is wholesale slaughter for fun of migratory species there, many of which are bound for the UK. The practice is illegal according to EU law, which Malta is subject to, but which they disregard, simply because is is “tradition” there, not only to shoot birds in huge numbers, but to lure them into nets for sale on the black market as cage birds.
The RSPB is creating a petition to send to the Maltese Prime Minister, Lawrence Gonzi, to put pressure on him and the Maltese government to put an end to this frankly disgusting practice.
You don’t have to be a member of the RSPB to sign their petition, and it costs nothing to do so. If you are even slightly annoyed by this, please do take the time to add your name to the petition.
Thank you!
