Can music make you cry? It can for me.
Apart from the sheer gut-wrenching horror of Girls Aloud et al, there are some songs, just a few, whose words can draw tears from my otherwise dry blue eyes. Every time.
Here are a few of them, in no particular order:
1. Don’t You Go - by John Martyn from “Glorious Fool” - imploring a son not to go to war.
2. Goodnight Irene - been done by myriads of artistes, but the live John Sebastian version kicks me off.
3. Birds - by Neil Young from “After The Goldrush”.
4. Starlings - by Elbow from “The Seldom Seen Kid” - “.. you are the only thing in any room you’re ever in” - magic.
All by male singers, coincidentally. There are others, too, but these 4 are the ones that really get to me.
What about you, dear reader? Are there any songs that make your face crumple and leak?
